AEW's Leyla Hirsch Undergoes Surgery On Torn ACL

Leyla Hirsch sustained an injury during a taping of AEW Dark: Elevation in early April. The Russian-American wrestler's knee gave way during an attempted second-rope moonsault while she was in the midst of a match with Christina Marie. Hirsch fell to the mat clutching her knee with a look of obvious anguish on her face. She was checked on by the referee who threw up the X arm signal to summon medical assistance from the back.

The severity of Leyla's injury wasn't revealed until this week when the Legit one took to social media to share an update while revealing that she'd recently had surgery to repair a torn ACL.

“On April 5th, during ‘AEW Dark Elevation’, I suffered an injury,” Hirsch captioned an image of herself recovering in a hospital bed. “After landing on my feet from a moonsault, I tore my ACL. Today I was finally able to get my surgery. Thank you to everyone for the support. I promise to come back an improved, leaner, meaner more Legit Athlete.”

Prior to tearing her ACL, Hirsch was engaged in a bitter feud with Kris Statlander. Hirsch and Statlander briefly made up two-thirds of an alliance that also included Red Velvet, but their relationship began to crumble following several miscommunication instances in the ring. The feud was really starting to heat up and both women are doing a great job of generating interest in their rivalry.

The February 11 edition of AEW Rampage on TNT featured a pre-taped promo package hyping up the feud. In her portion of the promo, Hirsch -- who lived in a Moscow orphanage until the age of 8 -- referenced her upbringing. Statlander then delivered a savage response.

"Honestly, if this is how your attitude was when you were a kid, I don't blame your parents for giving you up," Statlander told Hirsch in her portion of the package. Statlander's dig caused quite the stir on Wrestling Twitter, with most viewers being amused by its audaciousness, especially since Statlander is meant to be the babyface of the feud

"Legit" Leyla Hirsch is a 25-year-old Russian-American who made her pro-wrestling debut in 2017. She made her AW debut on an episode of Dark in October 2020, during which she lost to then-AEW Women's Champion Hikaru Shida.
